Apple Musings

Today was one of those days when Steve Jobs gets up in front of a bunch of Apple fans, journalists and fanboys and lets the world in on some remarkable and wonderful news.

Wow, that sounded sarcastic, didn’t it? Well, I slept pretty badly last night, my mask hasn’t been doing its job, apparently, and all day I felt like I used to feel every morning. Yuck.

Steve was expected to introduce a freshened line of iMacs…He did. Was expected to make the .Mac product worth a crap…He kinda did (10 gig storage - not a bad start). He was also expected to introduce something cool related to the iPhone. He didn’t.

Finally, he was kind of expected to kill the Mac Mini. But he didn’t. He freshened that line too, with new Dual Core 2 processors at higher speeds, but the same price! Now that was cool. Looks like a new Mini for me. No, I didn’t say "Mini-Me," I said a new "Mini for ME." After all, a week from today is my birthday.

I have to say, despite the fact that I know the "Steve Jobs Reality Distortion Field" is always operating when he’s around, I don’t care. I just love life in the field so much. The world is truly a better place. I was in the audience at this year’s MacWorld Keynote Address, and I ordered an Apple TV that day. I also called my wife after the address and told her that I was totally buying an iPhone the day it comes out in June (I waited about 16 hours after the release and bought it while we were on vacation). Again, I know the distortion field is at work, but I don’t care.

And you know what? My life is better with my iPhone. When I’m finally able to travel back in time, I’m taking mine (as contraband, if need be) to show the world what wonders await humanity if they can just keep from blowing themselves up. And I’m not even being sarcastic anymore.
