William F***ING Shatner
Wil Wheaton is a really good actor, best known for the movie Stand By Me as well as Star Trek: The Next Generation (the best Generation, by the way). He played young Wesley Crusher, son of the ship’s doctor and for many fans, a kind of pain in the ass. Well, Wil’s grown up, he’s a geek, and a wonderful writer. His rememberings about life on the Enterprise are not that many, but excellent reading. He tells a great story about his strained relationship with William Shatner, the original Star Trek Captain, and it’s really touching and funny.
I’ve never met Shatner, but had Leonard Nimoy on my Morning Show in Washington, DC. Everything went well. He was very nice, but after the interview, off the air I said to him "You know, one of the things I like best about The Next Generation is that Spock’s alive and Kirk is dead."
Silence. Oh. Not funny. You’re a…friend…of…William…Shatner’s, aren’t you?
Oh well, it was true.
On the other hand, I absolutely LOVE Shatner’s CD Has Been. It’s brilliant.
And yes, I know…As we learn in the Star Trek: Generations movie, Kirk wasn’t dead…Just hanging out in the Nexus…Calm down, Trekkies.
