DST to Save Energy

Well, a couple weeks early, tonight most of America (though not Arizona, where yours, truly resides) moves their clocks ahead an hour to save energy. I could probably work out how that works if:

A: I wanted to devote the brain cycles to it

or

B: I gave a shit

I really don’t care, since the savings in light of the wasteful, consumer way we live (this time, yours, truly included) has to be a micro-drop in the ocean. Our energy crisis is so bloody serious, it’s going to take a lot more than moving clocks ahead or back to fix it. I’m not even sure it can be fixed.

I’ve been doing a lot of research into this whole problem these days, and have even launched a blog about it. It’s serious, folks. Oil production has peaked, the Saudi’s are bullshitting the world about how much they have left, Iran (who knows the Saudis are running dry) is strutting, posing and taunting the U.S. because they think they hold all the cards.

What worries me, is that I don’t think they know they don’t hold all the cards. We may be debating about whether Iran is on the path to the bomb, already has a bomb, or can make a couple bombs. Well, we have thousands, and I am seriously worried that if it comes down to telling the American public that it can’t continue to have it’s wasteful, cheap fossil fuel based way of life unless they drop a couple hundred nukes on Iran, it’ll be a unanimous “drop on the bastards.” They are the ones who took the hostages, after all. That’s a shallow, not quite completely healed wound, you know.

You know it. I know it. But do they? I don’t think so, and that’s what worries me.
