Odds ‘n Ends

The Flaming Cheeto has sold her house. As someone who’s done that, hooray! It’s a great feeling, even when your buyers are dicks.

In her post, the Cheeto laments the mess the buyers will undoubtedly turn her beautiful home into. I can understand that. Houses are made of wood, cement and drywall. Homes are what the buildings become, and just because you sell your house, doesn’t mean you just pack up your home and leave.

When I look at houses, I’m always respectful and positive. I think one of the reasons we bought the house we’re living in is when we drove by and saw there were no brochures in the “brochure tube,” we asked about them. The owners were just getting home and invited us in to look at the house. After assuring us we weren’t intruding, we followed them into their home and took the tour. Marian’s love for her home was infectious and since politeness demands you ooh and ahh over the host’s home, you find yourself loving some things you ordinarily wouldn’t have liked.

We were also so SICK of looking at houses, so since the colors matched our stuff and it was light and airy and pretty, we bought it. The backyard, however, had to go.

It was the previous owner’s pride and joy, a collection of desert plants living in a yard full of rocks. Nice to see as a guest, but when it came to living with it and taking care of it, it sucked. So, last week we had landscapers come in an clear it. Some of the plants found homes elsewhere on the property, some when in the back of the landscaper’s truck. When the grass goes down, it will be a beautiful, tropical, parklike paradise.

But I know the former owners will hate it.

  • Do you a picture of the old backyard? It sounds interesting.

I’m a former Mac user who is getting ready to return to the fold, and get another laptop. I love my old PowerBook 3400c, but I think it’s time to upgrade. And I’m still using a desktop PeeCee, but I hate it. I know you’re a Mac guy, so I know you’d understand. Any word if Apple is coming up with something new in the near future for laptops? (Like next 2 months?)

  • Sorry, add the word “have” to that first sentence. Cripes.
